SHE WANTS TO GET THE BLACK BELT TO HELP THE OTHERS ✳️ My name is Monica, I am from a village in Lisbon, Portugal, and I am 37 years old. My experience at Para-Karate was excellent, I mean it was because I spent 5 years practicing this sport but I had to give up due to a foot injury.

I HAVE A GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT DELAY AND PARA-KARATE MAKES ME KEEP GOING

I have a slight mental deficiency, as a result, I can do everything but much slower than other people and I move forward with the right support.

I started to practice Para-Karate by curiosity and soon I loved it. I´m very grateful for my first Sensei but not only to him, but also his team who integrated me so I felt part of the group. Firstly, I started with him and then I passed with the older karate students.

INTEGRATION AND FEELING PART OF THE GROUP

Now, I have the blue belt and what I really like the most is doing katas, Despite of my difficulty with my left injured foot and my handicap to memorize and learn. I have a lot of desire to want to learn more, overcome me and get another belt.

I have to thank to my Sensei Sergio Gonçalves for the support, understanding, patience, great friendship and protection he gave me because it was the best five years of my life when I learned a lot.

THE BLACK BELT IS the GREAT CHALLENGE

The reason because I want to get the black belt is that I want to teach the younger ones and it’s a big challenge for me, too. I want to help others within my posssibilities!

I wasn’t very convinced to tell my story, because I don’t like to expose myself, because I sometimes feel different to other people, but when I read some stories which are published, and also, I watched some videos, that made me feel encouraged to tell my story and to be an example for the others.

I FEEL “DIFFERENT” MANY TIMES

I’m going to be re-operated on the same left foot as I operated years ago and then I hope I could practice Para-Karate again. After that I will have to look for a new Dojo because where I was training is closed and I do not have a car to go.

In any case, Para-Karate Forever and Karate Shotokan!!!
